About Normal Heights San Diego

Developed in the early 1900’s, Normal Heights is one of the early San Diego neighborhoods.

Located just 6 miles from downtown San Diego, Normal Heights is bordered by Interstate 8 to the north, El Cajon Blvd. to the south, Interstate 805 to the west and by Interstate 15 to the east.

The eclectic (and proud of it) neighborhood is bisected by Adams Ave., which passes directly through Normal Heights main commercial district (independent coffee shops, breweries and restaurants, among others).

Though the name of the neighborhood is often considered by many to have a deeper meaning behind it, the “Normal” in Normal Heights actually came from the name of the State School that was the precursor to San Diego State University.

The neighborhood enjoys high walkability, especially in the area called “Antique Row”.

Normal Heights plays host to two free major musical events each year, including the nationally famous “Adams Avenue Street Fair” and “Adams Avenue Unplugged”.
