About The Crosby Rancho Santa Fe

Located approximately five miles east of Interstate 5 and five miles west of Interstate 15, The Crosby at Rancho Santa Fe is an upscale 24-hour guard-gated, master-planned golf community and country club located on the eastern side of Rancho Santa Fe.

The community was developed in the early 2000s and sits on roughly 722 acres, with approximately 200 acres preserved as open space.

The Crosby includes approximately 70 villas, 281 semi-custom homes, and 70 custom estates. That range matters because the community does not live the same way from property to property.

A villa near the club may appeal to a very different buyer than a larger semi-custom home or custom estate with more privacy, scale, and outdoor living.

The community is named after Bing Crosby, who was closely tied to Rancho Santa Fe’s early history.

The street names throughout The Crosby reflect titles of Bing Crosby songs and movies, which gives the community a distinctive identity compared with other neighborhoods in the area.

The architectural style of The Crosby is influenced by Rancho Santa Fe’s Spanish Colonial Revival tradition, with red tile roofs, stucco exteriors, courtyards, and indoor-outdoor living spaces seen throughout many of the homes.

The Crosby Villas, Semi-Custom Homes, and Custom Estates

Villas

The villas are generally the more maintenance-conscious option within The Crosby. Think “lock and leave.”

They can be appealing if you want the security, club setting, and Rancho Santa Fe lifestyle without managing a larger estate-style property.

Also, the villas are located in two spots. The ones on Turf Club Drive are immediately adjacent — about a 1 to 2 minute walk — to the golf club, restaurant, and bar.

The villas on Blue Shadows Lane and Simple Melody Lane are immediately adjacent — also about a 1 to 2 minute walk — to the fitness center, tennis, swimming pool, spa, snack bar, and pickleball courts.

Semi-Custom Homes

The semi-custom homes make up a large part of the community and often provide a strong balance of size, lifestyle, and value.

Many include indoor-outdoor living spaces, private courtyards, pools, view orientation, and golf course or hillside settings.

This is where you need to compare carefully. Two semi-custom homes may look similar online but feel very different depending on view, privacy, updates, lot position, and exposure to roads or neighboring homes.

Custom Estates

The custom homes represent the upper end of The Crosby. These properties can offer more scale, privacy, architectural distinction, and outdoor living.

However, “custom” does not automatically mean better for every buyer. The design, condition, floor plan, view, lot usability, and location inside the community all matter.

The Crosby Golf, Club, and Amenity Lifestyle

The Crosby Club is a major part of the community identity.

The club includes an 18-hole championship golf course designed by PGA Hall-of-Famer Fred Couples, a beautiful 30,000-square-foot clubhouse with a popular restaurant, bar, and social scene, plus an 8,500-square-foot athletic club with tennis, pickleball, a fitness center, large pool, spa, and snack bar.

For some, the club lifestyle is central. For others, the appeal is more about the gated setting, views, and overall neighborhood feel.

That said, residents of The Crosby are not required to join the club, although a majority are members.

Location Inside The Crosby

Location inside The Crosby matters more than you may realize at first blush.

Some homes are oriented toward the golf course. Others look toward hillsides, canyons, lake areas, open space, or neighboring homes.

Some properties feel tucked away and private, while others may be closer to community roads, Del Dios Highway, or more active parts of the neighborhood.

And some homes may even have sightlines toward transmission power lines.

The Crosby is located about two miles east of the Village of Rancho Santa Fe and roughly five miles west of Interstate 15. That gives it a different access profile than communities farther west.

The main entrance to The Crosby is off Del Dios Highway, but there is also another entrance on the east side by Del Sur and 4S Ranch at Bing Crosby Boulevard and Camino Del Sur.

That second access point helps tremendously, especially if you want a quick way to get to the grocery store, a variety of restaurants, and shopping.

If you want the Rancho Santa Fe lifestyle with easier east-side access toward I-15, Rancho Bernardo’s growing Apple campus, or inland employment areas, The Crosby can make a lot of sense.

The trade-off is that it is not as close to the coast as some western Rancho Santa Fe locations.

A few things I would look at closely:

• Golf course frontage or golf course view
• Hillside, canyon, lake, or open-space orientation
• Privacy from neighboring homes
• Transmission power line sightlines
• Proximity to Del Dios Highway
• Road noise or traffic exposure
• Usability of the backyard and outdoor living areas
• How updated the home feels relative to your expectations
